Hello and welcome to catsrugby.com! Here we strive to provide you with up-to-date pertinent information on the development of rugby equipment, shirts and clothing. Given the physical nature of the sport it should come as no surprise that the materials used need to be as rugged as the players in maintaining their composure under the most demanding elements.

At catsrugby.com we are unaffiliated with any product line or company, so you can guarantee that our perspective is at all times unbiased and neutral to the rugby equipment, shirts and clothing that we cover. Unlike many other sources in this the age of information, we strive to purge our perspective from our work so that you always receive the unvarnished facts. Since people are continually trying to be as well informed as possible, the various media sources have been hard at work attempting to distinguish themselves from their competitors. In this attempt, they have, intentionally or otherwise, injected their personal biases into their work. AS stated, we perpetually halt any of our voice from coming through and provide only the most pure of facts to the public so that they can determine for themselves what is important and what is disregard able.

The sport of rugby is prevalent in the United Kingdom and Ireland for its class distinction. A common phrase is that foot ball is a gentlemen’s game played by thugs, but that rugby is a thug’s game played by gentlemen. Class distinction has been important in this regard because working class men used to play this highly physical game in their off time. American football is a variant of the same game, but there are a few critical differences, especially in regard to the rugby equipment that is used compared to the American version.

In American football pads are worn all over the body to protect it from the impacts, but no such equivalent rugby equipment exists meaning that the impacts are quite bone crunching and heavily bruising. There aren’t any cushions and the rugby shirts used aren’t padded in any way. The rugby shorts are minimalistic to enable the dexterity and strength of the player to be unencumbered when they’re performing. The rugby equipment that is used is therefore lightweight, and used to be pure cotton. However, since cotton absorbs water and mud fairly quickly, there has been a near-universal shift in the jerseys to the cotton-polyester combination that enables the wearer to feel the breeze while not maintaining so much of what they encounter on themselves.

Besides mitigating impacts without rugby equipment instead using simple clothing, there are several other structural differences between rugby and American football. For example, in the American variant there is a quarterback position which throws the ball to a receiver. In rugby only lateral passes are available, so there is no such position as the quarterback or receiver, but really just a 15 man team of wide receivers or running backs. For that reason and the lack of pads, most rugby players are inherently very tough.
