Rugby boots
Rugby boots contain spikes or studs on the soles of the shoes. These
allow the player to dig their feet into the ground to give balance,
maneuverability, and agility. The studs must be circular and securely
fastened to the soles of the boots. The spikes cannot be longer than
18 mm nor can the base diameter be more than 13 mm. It is illegal to
wear a single stud at the toe of the boot.
Rugby boots are worn to protect the feet from injury. The boots are
very similar to tennis shoes with the exception of the cleats or spikes
on the bottom of the shoes. Boots can be injurious to other players;
therefore, it is illegal to stomp on another player or use the cleats
in any manner that would compromise safety. Many players suffer cuts
to their legs due to the use of rugby shoes.
Rugby boots are made to demanding specifications. They should be manufactured
with an outsole that will perform on firm ground. They should also give
a player great on-field maneuverability. Once the shoes are laced, there
should be a tongue strap to secure the tongue.
